What is the purpose of this website, and what are you hoping to achieve?
Departed family and friends remain with us in the stories we tell and the memories we share, so we created this website as a safekeep to share with the world. In doing so, we also create the opportunity for family members, loved ones and the general public to add words of condolences, moments to remember and own stories to share. Our primary objective and passionate mission are to deliver a high-quality service capable of generating revenue from multiple sources. In doing so, we aim to give back to the community by addressing needs and fostering hope through our charitable endeavors. Through these efforts, we can live out our mission of reminding someone how precious life is.
Where do you get the information for your death notices?
We compile death notices based on information published in media and various public sources. We also receive obituaries from funeral homes and other partners country wide. (can we create a death notice based on an individual’s post on social media?) (reference to Terms of Use/Privacy Policy to safeguard us from wrong information?)
Death notices can also be submitted by a Member registered on the Three Colours Purple website, and will be published once verified by the relevant funeral home or other reliable source.
Do you only list current death notices?
No, death notices can be listed dating back indefinitely, the only requirement is the availability of a trusted source to verify the death to ensure the information on our website is valid and true for our users. As such, we give loved ones the opportunity to create a remembrance for someone stretching over any period in time, may it be an ancestor, a great grandparent or an unborn baby.
Where can I get more information on a Death Notice or Memorial Page?
We display available information on our platform, and no further information is available other than what you see. The creator of a Memorial Page determines the level of detail provided and can also set preferences with regards to what information are available for whom to see. Every Memorial Page has an optional function to contact the creator of the page privately should the user opt to do so, however Three Colours Purple are bound by our Code of Ethics and Privacy Policy and the creator can provide more information privately to an enquirer if opt to do so. No information will be shared to any third party by Three Colours Purple unless specifically authorised to do so.
What if I see errors on a Death Notice?
Any errors on a Death Notice compiled from public sources can be reported by sending a detailed email to our team at support@threecolourspurple.co.za , containing as much information as possible, with sufficient references to support the correction. Once verified, the Death Notice will be reissued containing the corrected information. Should the Death Notice be created by a registered Member, the corrective request will be evaluated against originally supplied information and in conjunction with the Member, a correction will be published.
Should the Death Notice be based on information supplied by a funeral home, we advise the funeral home to be contacted directly with the correction request, upon which we are happy to publish the correction if advised so by the funeral home.
False Death Notices will be removed as soon as we are being made aware of such, and further steps will be pursued where it is found the information supplied is in breach of our Terms & Conditions/Code of Conduct. Please contact us immediately via email support@threecolourspurple.co.za for a speedy resolve.
I don’t see a Death Notice for my loved one. Can I create one?
Yes, you can. Once you are registered as a member on the Three Colours Purple website, you have an option to create a Death Notice by completing the online form. Be sure to add the required detail for us to verify the information and in this way ensure the information we publish are accurate and valid for our site users.
If I want to create a Memorial Page for my departed loved one, where do I start?
The first step is to determine if a Death Notice has already been created for your loved one, or not:
* if yes, click on the “Create a Memorial Page” tab, search and select the Death Notice, and follow the “How to” instructions from there
* if no, click on the “Create a Death Notice” tab, and complete the easy-fill fields. Once the Death Notice is published on the website, click on the “Create a Memorial Page” tab and follow the process noted above
Why do I need to be registered as a Member on the Three Colours Purple website before I can leave a message in the “Farewell Letter Box”?
As we are entrusted by loved ones to preserve the memories of a deceased, we honour this privilege by limiting posts to registered members only as a safeguard to prevent inappropriate content from an uncontrolled source. Even though registration is effortless and free of charge, we have verification procedures in place before a new membership is confirmed and access is granted. We use your personal information, including your email address, only for its intended purpose as outlined in our Terms & Conditions. Our Privacy Policy explains how we protect your data, and we encourage you to review it.
Can I have a Death Notice removed?
If you are the next of kin, and you wish to have a Death Notice removed from the listing, please send an email to our team at support@threecolourspurple.co.za, providing us with sufficient information to confirm your relationship to the deceased, and we are sure to accommodate your request.
Do I need to be next of kin to create a Death Notice or Memorial Page for a deceased?
No, anyone can create a Death Notice and/or Memorial Page for a loved one, may it be a dear friend, close acquaintance, or any past relationship.
What if a Memorial Page is already created for a deceased, can I create another one?
Yes, you absolutely can. Memorial Pages are linked to a Death Notice, and appear as separate links below the Death Notice.
Can I have a Memorial Page removed?
A Memorial Page can only be removed by the original creator, who has the option under “Settings” on the Memorial Page to remove a page by permanently deleting it. Should the editor opt for this option, the page cannot be retrieved at any time in future.
How long will a Memorial Page be hosted on the website?

Is the personal information I supply available to third parties?
No. We value your privacy very highly, and any personal information you supply, including any email address, will only be used for the purpose it was intended as stipulated in our Terms & Conditions which you agreed upon during the registration process. Our Privacy Policy provides further information our how we protect your personal information and we encourage you to peruse the provisions.
Can I edit or delete a message I posted on a Death Notice or Memorial Page?
If the Death Notice or Memorial Page is still active and you are logged into the website, there is a button underneath the message you posted giving you the options copy/edit/delete.
What do I do if I forgot my password or username?
All our passwords are encrypted for security purposes, and your existing password cannot be retrieved. If you have forgotten your password, the button “Forgot your password?” is available on the login screen and a new system generated password will be sent to the email address you used at registration. Once you have clicked on the link in the email to access your member account, you will be prompted to change your password to a new one containing the prescribed characters. If you have forgotten your username, please send an email to support@threecolourpurple.co.za.
I created a Memorial Page. Can I make changes once the Page is published, and how can I change the page’s visibility, visitors’ actions and other preferences?
If you are the creator of a Memorial Page, you can edit any information you previously entered or change any photos or videos previously uploaded by clicking the “Edit page info” button on the Memorial Page. By clicking the “Settings” button, you can change page visibility, notifications, allowing visitor’s posts, etc. that will be actioned moving forward once you “Save changes”. (?)
How can I deactivate my account?
If you would like to deactivate your account, you can do so in the ‘My Account’ page by clicking on ‘Deactivate my account.’ Any Death Notices and/or Memorial Pages you have created will still be active. To reactivate you account, send an email to support@threecolourspurple.co.za
