Yellowwood Home

Yellowwood Home is a spacious, thatch-roof house designed as a comfortable place to stay rather than a typical holiday unit.
The layout is generous and modern, with rooms that open towards the garden and the valley below.

The heart of the house is the open kitchen and living area, which connects directly to a wide thatched-roof covered deck.
From here, there is an open view over the valley and the stream below. The deck is well suited for meals, reading, birding, or just being.

The main bedroom is a large, high rondavel with an extended, light-filled section overlooking the garden.
This space works naturally as a quiet sitting or reading area. Sliding doors open onto a small separate deck.

The second bedroom has a comfortable queen bed. The stylish bathroom is spacious and includes a bath, shower and toilet.
There is a second separate toilet.

All rooms have ceiling fans, and together with the high thatched-roof they remain cool, even on warm days.
A distinctive feature of the villa is the kitchen cabinetry, made from a 400-year-old yellowwood tree, which gives the house its name.

Nkandla - Rondavel Garden House

Nkandla is made up of two rondavels and a separate small building for the kitchen, bathroom and toilet.
The units are arranged around a covered wooden deck that connects the spaces and looks out over the garden and the valley.

One rondavel is used as the bedroom. The second serves as a living space during cooler or rainy weather and includes a sleeping couch.
A separate unit contains the small kitchen, a shower and a separate toilet.

Nkandla has a cosy, informal feel, with the rounded shape of the rondavels, natural materials and a layout that encourages spending time outside. The covered deck functions as the main living space and is well suited for meals, reading, birding, working, exercising or just doing nothing. A separate outdoor shower, set secluded under tall trees, is an extra feature.

Nkandla is privately positioned on the property and has a distinctly African character. It suits guests who enjoy a simple, comfortable setup, spend much of their time outdoors, and value privacy and a connection to the surrounding garden and landscape.

The Setting

The houses are situated on a private 3-hectare property just outside Tzaneen. The area is quiet and safe, with a mix of tropical garden, trees and more natural indigenous vegetation. Fruit, nut and avocado trees grow throughout the property.

Guests are welcome to walk around the grounds and explore the different sites of the garden. Birdlife is abundant; more than 300 species have been recorded in the area. An experienced bird guide can be arranged if booked in advance.

We cherish and value the wildlife around us and try to keep our impact light, including reducing plastic where we can. Two friendly dogs and two cats live on the property. They move around freely but are not allowed inside the guest homes.

Practical Notes

Reliable Wi-Fi is available. There is no television
 in the houses.

The property lies on a slope and has several levels and steps. For this reason, it is unfortunately not well suited to guests with limited mobility.
